DG Lion Kim Ainsworth was born at the Royal Women’s Hospital in Melbourne on 26th of November 1954. His formative years were spent at Seaford, Briar Hill and Stawell.
In 1966 when he was 12 the decision was made to move to Phoenix Arizona where his aunt lived, so his mother, younger brother and Kim uprooted their family and moved. Unfortunately, after 3 years, the United States proved not for them and they once again relocated back to Australia specifically Lakes Entrance.
Shortly after arriving in Lakes Entrance Kim joined the local surf club as a volunteer and eventually was elected as Vice-Captain.
In 1973 Kim made the decision that he needed a change and joined the Regular Army and after completing Basic and Corps training was posted to Lavarack Barracks Townsville in the 1st Battalion.
Whilst on annual leave back in Lakes Entrance in 1975 Kim met his future wife Chris and they were married in 1976. They have been very fortunate to have been blessed with 3 children (son Anthony and twin daughters Megan and Jodie) they in turn have given Kim and Chris 5 delightful grandchildren 3 girls and 2 boys and the latest addition a great granddaughter now 18 months old.
After 9 years in the Regular Army, it was time to take discharge and they moved to Bairnsdale.
Kim worked as admin officer for Bairnsdale and District Amateur Basketball Association; and then commenced a full time Certificate 4 Information Technology course at East Gippsland Institute of TAFE.
After completing the Cert 4 in 1999 Kim went to work with a friend who owned a trophy and engraving shop as a Laser engraver operator/Manager which continued until 2014 when he retired from full time work.
Since retiring, Kim has worked as a volunteer at the Salvation Army as Assistant Manager and Volunteer Coordinator for 4 years; and St Vincent de Paul as Day Coordinator for 2 years.
Since joining Lions Kim has been Club 3rd 2nd and 1st Vice President, Club President twice, Secretary 3 times and Treasurer twice amongst many other committee positions.
